My life has completely been taken over by Revision! This year has been incredibly hard work what with working full time, raising a boisterous 4 year old boy and completing my Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology. Having said all that, every hour spent has been totally worth it because once I pass the Anatomy and Physiology exam I am another step closer to my dream career.
If you’re in the midst of revision, then you’re probably a little bit stressed out like I am. Luckily, I have got some tips on how to reduce your stress!
Stay Positive
Remind yourself that there is life after exams. Remind yourself that a bad results will not be the end of the world. Exams are, of course, important for your future but you are so much more than your exam results.
Get Organised
Make sure you know exactly what exams you’re taking and when. Making checklists of topics and things to do will help you to feel like you have more control over your exams and revision. Organise what you need to revise and develop the best technique that suits you. When i first started revising many people freely offered their opinion on how best to revise. Listen to these people but ultimately do what is best for you and your style of learning.
Take Frequent Breaks
We can only successfully concentrate for a short period of time so taking frequent breaks will help you to retain information and therefor be less stressed.
Try to Enjoy Life
Just because you’re in the midst of revision and exams, doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun. Set yourself reasonable revision goals and when you reach them, reward yourself!
Don’t Compare
Have you ever heard the expression: “Comparison is the thief of joy”? Don’t compare how much revision you’re doing to anyone else. Everyone learns at their own pace and revises in their own way. Try to avoid dissecting the exam afterwards as well. Discussing what answers you gave will only cause you to worry.
Revise Outside
Typically, it’s normally sunny around exam time. Don’t force yourself to stay inside if you can revise outside. For some, being in the sun makes us feel happier and will hopefully reduce stress. Personally I like to find a quiet area in my local beer garden and revise from there! But remember to stay off the Gin!
Take Care of Yourself
Make sure to eat healthily, drink plenty of water and get enough rest during exams. You won’t be able to revise effectively without taking care of your body first.
