Throat Chakra - Your Voice Within

November 20, 2018

The throat chakra is the fifth chakra in the body’s energy system. The purpose of this chakra is to be the voice within and allow you to speak and live your authentic truth.

The throat chakra balances mental and emotional energy as it moves from the heart chakra to the forehead chakra.  This chakra provides clarity between what is right and wrong for you.  It helps to form the authentic truth in your belief system, and it enables you to be assertive in expressing that truth to others.

The throat chakra is located in the front middle of the neck at the throat. It represents communication.

The age of development for this chakra is 29 – 35. It corresponds to the solar plexus chakra meaning when the throat chakra is weak the solar plexus chakra will overcompensate and vice versa.

The sensory function of the throat chakra is hearing. Listening to your inner voice is a sign of a balanced throat chakra.  Many people would think the sensory function of the throat chakra would be vocal. This is not the case.

A balanced throat chakra increases self-confidence; while a weakened throat chakra may increase shyness.  An overcharged throat chakra might lead to aggression and a rebellious attitude.

When the throat chakra is balanced one is expressive, honest, charismatic, clear thinking, a good listener, independent and assertive.

The associated body parts for this chakra are the throat, jaw, breathing, voice, neck, hearing, thyroid and ears. When this chakra is out of balance these areas will be the first to show the symptoms.

  • Sore throat

  • Tonsillitis

  • Toothaches

  • Shyness

  • Stutter

  • Tension headaches

  • Neck pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Thyroid diseases

  • Anxiety attacks

Be warned that when you balance your throat chakra you will have to process a lot of emotions that have been stuffed away. You will have to confront your fears and anxieties.

I like to compare it to a facial mud mask. Just like how a mud mask can cause you to break out after use, clearing your throat chakra can pull hidden emotions to the surface.  When you are clearing your throat chakra you are pulling a lot of emotional and mental gunk to the forefront in order to remove it.

There are several ways one can bring balance back to the throat chakra. I will go through each of the components and techniques on how to bring alignment back to the throat chakra below.

Bring the color sky blue into your everyday life. I really like wearing a sky blue necklace when I need to boost the energy of my throat chakra. This gives serves as a reminder throughout the day that I can touch, see and feel to strengthen this chakra.

The symbol for this chakra is a circle. Drawing circles is a fun way to amplify the energy of your throat chakra. When I was a kid my grandparents had a spirograph toy that used circular tools to draw amazing designs.

If you aren’t feeling artistic I would suggest blowing bubbles. It activates your throat chakra in two ways. By using breath to create the bubbles you are stimulating the chakra. Then by visually seeing a 3D circle, you are promoting the symbol of the throat chakra.

The foods that nourish the throat chakra are tart and tangy fruits, lemon, lime, and kiwi. I recently made some homemade strawberry lemonade to give my throat chakra a jump start.

But check out this gorgeous fruit pizza. It’s a circle and has those tart and tangy fruits the throat chakra craves. Bonus!

As I stated above I like to wear necklaces of sky blue to really initiate the healing power of the throat chakra. To go a step further, wearing a crystal as a necklace works double time on balancing the energy of this chakra.

I personally love to use blue lace agate but aquamarine and topaz crystals are also great choices. I already have an array of crystals so I have found these precious little cage necklaces to use. They are perfect because you can change out the crystal.

Not a fan of crystals, no problem try an aromatherapy necklace also called a diffuser necklace. The aromatic oils that energize the throat chakra are eucalyptus, camphor, and peppermint.

Back flower remedies for the throat chakra are agrimony, cearto, and mimulus. Agrimony is for those who mask their feelings and hide their true self.

Cearto is for trusting oneself. It aides in double thinking and the inability to make decisions without second-guessing.

Agrimony is for those that struggle with fear and anxiety. It releases inner tensions, anxieties, and hidden emotions.

Affirmations are a great tool to help balance the throat chakra.   Speak one of the following affirmations slowly, clearly and audibly to yourself three times:

  • I express myself in my own creative way.

  • I say what I mean, and mean what I say.

  • I love and I trust in my own authentic truths.

If you gossip or talk poorly about others, now is the time to change that habit.  These ill words will leave a residue of Sha Chi, negative energy, in your throat chakra.  Both of these bad habits create an environment where negative energy is transferred to other energy centers within your body.

Not to mention, talking badly of others is a form of black magic. Without realizing it we are casting spells on others through the words we use. You are placing negative energy back on the person you are speaking poorly of. Giving yourself and them a further obstacle to overcome on their path to healing.

Clear the way for fresh Sheng Chi to rejuvenate your throat chakra by speaking positively of yourself and others. Remember what Bambi’s mother said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all!”

When was the last time you sat and listened to silence?  Chances are not in a long time. Our busy schedules and all the electronics we are plugged in to give a constant stream of doing and never just being.

The sensory function of the throat chakra is hearing. The following technique might sound a little obscure, but it actually increases your hearing ability.

Find a quiet spot, get comfy and prepare to listen to the sound of nothingness.  While listening to the sound of silence, you hear the voice within.  In the stillness, your authentic truths speak to you. What a great way to recharge yo
